Morrough P. O’Brien is considered by many the founder of modern coastal engineering. In his memory, ASBPA has a special M.P. O’Brien Fund that supports a lifetime achievement award to an outstanding coastal professional and provides scholarships for students pursuing a career in the coastal field.
On this Giving Tuesday and through the Holiday Season, we’re asking members to provide a one-time donation to ASBPA’s M.P. O’Brien fund. And in honor of ASBPA’s 90th Anniversary, have your donation end with 90 cents!
Whether you can donate $5.90, $25.90, or $90.90, your contribution will directly support the best of our coastal community and the future of our community.
Morrough P. O’Brien passed on a legacy of coastal greatness. At this year’s ASBPA National Coastal Conference, we heard stories of “Dean” O’Brien teaching and mentoring many of the retired icons of coastal science and engineering, Bob Dean, Orville Magoon, this year’s MP O’Brien award winner, Rich Weggel. These greats have taught many of us, just as we are now teaching the next generation. M.P. O’Brien is, in this way, the great-grandfather mentor to today’s young coastal engineers. And so we ask you to honor his legacy and support the next generation with a special donation today.
We ask you to make this donation in addition to your regular membership renewal. Membership dues are critical to funding ASBPA’s programs and publications; they support our science and government affairs advocacy. But our special M.P. O’Brien fund honors our history and provides for our future. Please make a one-time contribution to this special fund today!
