ASBPA holds California sea level rise briefing in Washington, D.C.

FORT MYERS, FL – The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) held a briefing about the effects of sea level rise on the coast of California. The briefing took place Jan. 27 in Washington D.C. in the Dirksen Building.

Russell H. Boudreau, principal coastal engineer of Moffatt & Nichol, led the discussion. He touched on the following points:
• Why are sea levels rising…faster?
• The geology and oceanography of the California coastline
• The cultural, economic and ecological values of the California shoreline
• The consequences of accelerating sea level rise
• Strategies for adaptation
