According to ASBPA’s latest white paper, Training the Next Generation of U.S. Coastal Scientists and Engineers: 2018, “funding for coastal academics remains difficult to obtain and has declined over the last five years.” Furthermore, current coastal science and engineering students may have less opportunity than previous generations to conduct graduate research or receive field training in traditional coastal engineering, such as waves, hydraulics, structural design, etc.
ASBPA is stepping up to address this challenge.

- Fund student scholarships;
- Increase student research grant opportunities;
- Maintain discount membership to ASBPA and National Coastal Conference registration for students;
- Help develop a database of academic programs and professors offering advanced degrees in a coastal field.
