The Capitol Beach discusses the Coastal Summit with Brian Caufield

On this episode of the Capitol Beach, Derek Brockbank welcomes Brian Caufield to the show to talk about the upcoming ASBPA Coastal Summit, which Brian is co-chairing this year. The 2019 Coastal Summit will be held in Washington D.C. March 12-14 and will feature a packed program complete with break-away groups with Federal agency leaders, time to meet with members of Congress, and the “Coastal Celebration on Capitol Hill” gathering in the Hart Senate Office Building. Brian Caufield is a coastal engineer for CDM Smith working as a technical and project manager for company-wide coastal studies. Caufield has over 10 years’ experience in the technical and permitting aspects of beach nourishment and other coastal projects. Caufield has worked with various stakeholders from federal agencies down to the community and individual homeowners.

ASBPA Executive Director, Derek Brockbank, will host this semi-regular podcast. Prior to starting with ASBPA, Derek worked as campaign director for a coalition effort to restore the Mississippi River Delta and Coastal Louisiana, and was part of a gulf-wide campaign to pass the RESTORE Act, securing billions of dollars for Gulf Coast restoration. This followed up on his work with National Wildlife Federation on climate adaption. Derek started his career as a grassroots organizer. Derek grew up in New York City and got his coastal education from an early age playing on the beaches of Long Island, and kayaking and fishing in Peconic Bay.
