Just a reminder that our next Chapter meeting is coming up this Thursday June 17, 2021 from 12-1 PM (Central time). No pre-registration required. Just click on the link or dial in on the phone*.

Speaker: Kate Dawson, Moffat & Nichol (https://www.moffattnichol.com/)

Presentation Title: Preliminary Restoration Concepts for the Lower Perdido Islands in Orange Beach, Alabama

Presentation Abstract:The valuable habitats of the Lower Perdido Islands complex have experienced long-term, sustained erosion and other ecological injuries resulting from storms, intense boat traffic in nearshore waters, and heavy recreational use of the islands. The Lower Perdido Islands Restoration Project was developed in response to the challenges faced by the islands. The project team was tasked with hydrodynamic and morphological modeling, development of a Comprehensive Management Plan, and engineering and design of restoration alternatives which considered beneficial use of dredged material. Prioritization of the design concepts is ongoing and additional modeling of the concepts will be performed to inform and advance engineering and design.

Speaker Bio: Kate Dawson is a Coastal Scientist and Engineer Intern with Moffatt & Nichol in Mobile, Alabama. She received her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of West Florida and her Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus in coastal topics from the University of South Alabama. With an education in both biology and engineering, Kate is especially passionate about the integration of sustainable environmental and engineering practices to design and implement restoration projects.

*N.B. For those dialing into the meeting I will not see your contact information in the participant list. Therefore, I will not automatically send you your 1-hr certificate.
