Shore & Beach announces dedicated issue on Social Components in Resilience Planning – Abstracts due March 15, 2022

Call for Manuscripts: Dedicated Issue of Shore & Beach

“Social Components in Resilience Planning”

 The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) invites manuscripts on “Social Components in Resilience Planning” for a dedicated issue of ASBPA’s journal Shore & Beach (S&B). The goal of the dedicated issue will be to: 1) raise awareness of social and environmental equity issues posed by climate change, rising seas, and flooding and 2) advance coastal resilience practitioners and communities’ capabilities to address these issues.

This special issue will be published in the fourth quarter of 2022, and guest edited by Dr. Tom Herrington and Shannon Cunniff.

Topics of special interest to this dedicated issue include the following:

  • Problems posed to social and environmental equity by traditional approaches in research, design and planning
  • Building environmental and social justice considerations to realize equity in decision- making
  • Ensuring social equity in coastal resilience planning
  • Methods for measuring environmental justice and equity
  • Best practices for engaging and working with marginalized communities in resilience planning and implementation
  • Innovations in collaboration
  • Balancing timeliness, costs, and collaboration needs
  • Capacity building in marginalized communities
  • Addressing local concerns over gentrification due to enhanced resilience
  • Planning and implementing coastal resilience projects to advance equity and justice in marginalized communities

The draft timeline for this dedicated issue is as follows:

  • One-page abstracts from interested authors: 15 March 2022
  • Draft papers submitted:  15 May 2022
  • Draft papers reviewed: 15 June 2022
  • Revised papers submitted: 15 July 2022
  • Dedicated Issue published: 4th Quarter 2022

SUBMISSIONS:  Interested authors instructions should submit their one-page abstracts by 15 March 2022, for consideration to managing editor, Beth Sciaudone (mg_editor@asbpa.org) and issue guest editors (Tom Herrington at therring@monmouth.edu and Shannon Cunniff at   secunniff@gmail.com).  General details including author guidelines for Shore & Beach are available at https://asbpa.org/publications/shore-and-beach/.

JOURNAL DETAILS: Shore & Beach publishes quality refereed papers of interest to a diverse audience of scientists, engineers, coastal managers, and government officials.  Papers cover a full spectrum of coastal topics from beach erosion and restoration to coastal zone management, sea level rise issues, economics of the coast, and environmental impacts.  Articles should appeal and be accessible to an interdisciplinary audience.
