September 22, 2022 Lunch & Learn

October 21, 2022CGC EventsBret Webb

Please tune in for a Central Gulf Coast Chapter Lunch & Learn (via Zoom) on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 12-1 pm Central. Derek Brockbank, Executive Director of Coastal States Organization, will be giving a presentation entitled, “Implementing Coastal Resilience in the Infrastructure Bill and the Inflation Reduction Act: Updates on how federal agencies are implementing new funding for coastal programs.” See below and attached for more information. A meeting announcement card is also attached to this email and the Zoom links are below. I will also be spamming your emails with a calendar appointment (sorry).

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), aka Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), was signed into law by President Biden on November 15, 2021. This historic, $1.2 trillion-dollar legislation contains tens of billions of dollars to be spent over the next five years for resilience investments, ecosystem restoration, and water infrastructure, providing an important opportunity for coastal communities and ecosystems. This money will flow through both existing and new channels spanning many agencies including the NOAA, the EPA, FEMA, the Department of Interior, the Corps of Engineers, and the Department of Transportation, among others. NOAA has over $2 billion intended for coastal resilience projects across different programs, nearly all of which is open to new coastal project work that uses natural and nature-based features.

This presentation, which will occur roughly one year after the IIJA was signed into law, will provide an overview of the status of key funding opportunities through the IIJA that are relevant to coastal communities. This will include who is eligible to apply for funding, what funding parameters are for different programs, and timing for proposals (as relevant). The focus will be on NOAA’s funding programs, including Coastal Zone Management Grants & National Estuarine Research Reserves, the National Oceans and Coastal Security Fund, Habitat Restoration, and Regional Ocean Partnerships; but will touch on other coastal agencies too.
