Episode 14. ASBPA’s Shaping Shores with Lynn Bocamazo

Welcome to Shaping Shores, the Centennial podcast of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association. For nearly a hundred years, ASBPA has united people across science, policy, and practice to preserve U.S. shores and beaches.

In Episode 14, Lynn Bocamazo, retired Deputy Chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – New York District, joins the ASBPA #ShapingShoresPodcast to reflect on four decades of leading beach and inlet projects, mentoring coastal engineers, and shaping federal coastal policy. She shares lessons from Hurricane Sandy recovery, insights on evolving coastal risk management, and the importance of communicating coastal science with everyone from beachgoers to Congress.

Guests

Ms. Bocamazo was the Deputy Chief, Engineering Division for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District, New York. Previously she was the Hurricane Sandy Branch Chief for the New York District. Her principal coastal engineering work had been on coastal storm risk management and coastal inlet navigation projects on Long Island, New York and northern New Jersey, for over 35 years. She received her Bachelors of Engineering in Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union, Manhattan, and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn. Ms. Bocamazo is a licensed professional engineer in New York State and has been a Coastal Trustee for the Board of Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port and Navigation Engineers, in which she is Board Certified in Coastal Engineering.

Nicole Elko is Executive Director of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association and host of the Shaping Shores podcast.
