This is really an anecdote about how the community members of ASBPA make the organization more than the sum of its parts.As an undergrad at Texas A&M, a few of us went to ask Dr. Billy Edge a wave mechanics question from Bob & Bob (group velocity components, orbital motion impacts on sediments, or something benign but interesting to students new to coastal engineering).
In classic Dr. Edge fashion, he responded quickly with, “let’s give Bob a call”, and then proceeded to call Dr. Dean who immediately answered the phone. Dr. Edge said he had some students in his office that had a question about one of his equations, put us on speaker phone, and we all spent the next 10 minutes with Dr. Dean taking the time to answer our questions.
