ASBPA’s chapters work on state and regional beach and coastal issues. Chapters also support coastal education for students and practitioners in their region. Together with our non-chapter partners, ASBPA’s chapters shape our regional policy positions. Membership in your state or regional chapter is included in ASBPA national membership.

The California Shore & Beach Preservation Association (CSBPA) is a state chapter of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association.

CENTRAL GULF COAST (CGC)

The mission of the Central Gulf Coast Chapter, a regional chapter of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, is to serve as an advocate for the 8,687 miles of diverse shorelines of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi by capitalizing on the time, talents, and treasury of our regional coastal professionals for the purpose of preserving, restoring, protecting, and enhancing our coasts. This chapter specifically focuses on issues, advocacy, and awareness for our local coastal ecosystems while also providing continuing education, professional development, and networking opportunities for our local coastal professionals.

GREAT LAKES SHORE AND BEACH PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (GLSBPA)

The Great Lakes Chapter of ASBPA was formed to bring together diverse stakeholders concerned with the welfare of the Great Lakes coasts. The organization desires to protect shoreline resources and support economic and recreational value of the coast, and strives to provide unbiased information to policy makers, homeowners and local entities charged with managing and protecting our coastal resources.

HAWAI'I SHORE AND BEACH PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (HSBPA)

HSBPA brings together members of academia, government professionals, students, private organizations, various interest groups, and local community members concerned with the welfare of Hawaii’s beaches and coastal environments.

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAC) of ASBPA’s mission is, “Working regionally for healthy, sustainable, and resilient coastal and shoreline systems.”

NORTHEAST SHORE AND BEACH PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (NSBPA)

The NSBPA is the Northeast Chapter of the ASBPA, and represents members from coastal states from Maine to New Jersey. Regional differences exist in the natural environments found in the northeast, as well as in permitting, coastal resource management and perspective.

STUDENT & NEW PROFESSIONALS CHAPTER OF ASBPA

  • Aims to involve future scientists, engineers, managers, and coastal stewards in achievement of the organization’s top priorities and concerns.
  • Engage students and new professionals in the organization and at conferences.
  • Meets monthly via teleconference to discuss student chapters, student involvement activities, and student/new professional opportunities.
  • Coordinates monthly student/new professional guest writer article in Coastal Voice.
  • Developing the draft ASBPA Coastal Universities Guide. Please submit edits to the guide through this webform.

TEXAS CHAPTER OF ASBPA

The Texas Chapter of ASBPA preserves, restores, and protects the shorelines of the Texas Coast for future generations to enjoy by bringing together individuals, coastal professionals and academics, property owners, government entities, and groups in finding solutions.. The goals of the Texas Chapter are to encourage and educate the public and various levels of government on the importance of the Texas shoreline in terms of economic, environmental, social, and aesthetic values. In addition, the Texas Chapter actively supporta the ASBPA’s legislative efforts with the Federal Government and will work with other State associations in searching for solutions and funds for shoreline restoration projects.

COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY CHAPTERS OF ASBPA

This chapter of ASBPA is open to all undergraduate and graduate students attending Stevens Institute of Technology. The chapter includes an active contingent of graduate coastal researches that regularly present at national conferences. Additionally, the student chapter promotes exposure to ocean and coastal engineering at the undergraduate level through engineering field trips to local New Jersey beaches and education and outreach activities. The chapter offers numerous volunteering opportunities at Ocean Fun Days, the ASBPA conferences and beach sweeps with Clean Ocean Action.
