GET INVOLVED IN AN ASBPA COMMITTEE! We welcome your participation and if you are interested in joining a committee(s), please contact the chair or designated contact.

ASBPA committees are described below and any member of the Association in good standing may participate. This includes individuals representing member entities.

Government Affairs

  • G/A Meets on the 3rd Thursday each month on Zoom
  • Develops a legislative agenda
  • Develops a government affairs work plan
  • Oversight for organization’s government affairs engagement
  • Provides programatic input for the annual Coastal Summit

Science and Technology

  • S&T Meets on the 3rd Tuesday each month on Zoom
  • Guides all policy decisions made by the organization
  • Enumerates national coastal research and education needs
  • Authors white papers on relevant coastal issues
  • Advocates for increased funding for coastal research
  • Coordinates with universities with coastal science and engineering programs

Best Restored Beaches & Best Restored Shores

  • Develops award criteria and call for nominations
  • Reviews nominations and makes recommendations
  • Coordinates with recipients
  • Plans awards ceremony at Coastal Summit (BRB) & National Coastal Conference (BRS)

Coastal Summit Steering Committee

  • Meets once monthly during active Summit ‘season’
  • Develops theme, Call for Issues, Call for Awards
  • Develops program, invites speakers, arranges agency exchange meetings
  • Coordinates awards and awards reception
  • Coordinates Coastal Celebration (in partnership with CSO)

The Coastal Summit occurs annually in March in Washington, DC

National Coastal Conference Steering Committee

  • Meets once monthly during active NCC ‘season’
  • Develops theme, Call for Presentations, Call for Awards
  • Assigns sub-committees (papers/program, moderators, sponsorship, field trip, CZF short courses, awards, etc.)
  • Develops and leads field trip
  • Markets conference program and sponsorships
  • Engages with local strategic partners and universities
  • Reviews abstracts & develops technical and plenary program
  • Selects award recipients

The National Coastal Conference occurs annually in September or October throughout the U.S. in diverse coastal communities.

Presidential Appointment Committees

Executive Committee
  • Officers and designated directors by presidential appointment
  • Assumes duties of Board of Directors between board meetings
  • Oversees administrative affairs of the Association
  • Provides guidance to President
  • Meets twice annually (Winter/Summer)
Bylaws Committee
  • Reviews Association’s bylaws in even numbered years
  • Members from Board of Directors are appointed by President
  • Recommends necessary changes to Board
Nominating Committee
  • Members from Board of Directors appointed by President
  • Canvases membership for new candidates for board of directors
  • Coordinates with and nominates new directors
