The role of ASBPA’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is to facilitate communication and collaboration between ASBPA and the federal and academic science communities; and to provide a respected, independent scientific voice to provide recommendations to ASBPA’s science, policy and education initiatives. TAC members are some of the most distinguished coastal scientists and engineers in government and academia.
The TAC serves the needs of ASBPA members, partners, and coastal resources through a stronger connection to the academic and federal research communities. This includes fostering direct linkages between front line problems and federal and academic resources to address these problems. The TAC helps ASBPA understand the research and policy needs of the coastal community, and identifies how ASBPA can help. Our members often understand local need, the frontline management requirement, but they don’t understand basic science or the foundation of the agency mission/regulation driving the challenge. The TAC can help translate managers’ needs into the appropriate science questions.
The TAC may additionally help draft or review ASBPA’s scientific White Paper and Position Papers.
ASBPA’s Technical Advisory Committee is independent from ASBPA governance. TAC members do not speak for ASBPA, but serve as an advisory voice that helps ensure ASBPA’s science and policy work is meeting the highest and best technical standards.
