National Beach Nourishment Database

The ASBPA National Beach Nourishment Database provides National-scale statistics on U.S. communities beach nourishment efforts over the last century (Elko et al. 2021). The database has been compiled over the last two decades and is updated annually by ASBPA membership.

The goal of the database is to provide the public and ASBPA members with detailed information on U.S. nourishment projects at the national, state, and project level including:

  • Community

    The community name. Large projects are broken down into smaller community or local municipality-level projects if possible.

  • Events

    Individual nourishment events per community. Many communities have renourished their beaches multiple times.

  • Dates

    The date that the project was originally nourished (initial event), and the dates of subsequent renourishment events;

  • Volume

    The total volume of sand placed on the project;

  • Cost

    The known total cost; and

  • Length

    The known length of beach nourished.
